Our Fallen Police Officers
Today is a sad day for the families, colleagues, friends and community of our two Hero’s of the Fredericton Police Force.
Sara Burns and Robb Costello. What has this world become? I know murder has been a part of our society forever, having said that, it still doesn’t make it right. People ask why? It could be out of anger, frustration, or maybe it’s just that people who were born bad apples are taking the lives of others.
We can speak of mental illness, a bad childhood, or anything else that rationalizes killing in some way all we want. Those who don’t understand that picking up a gun and shooting someone is wrong would be few and far between. That may sound harsh, but today, that is how I feel.
To take a life from someone that has given so much of themselves to their family and community is baffling.
I am also sorry for the families of the other two victims, Bobbie Wright and Donnie Robichaud. Their lives matter just as much.
I want to say that these officers went into that profession to protect and serve. I am so sick of some people saying all they do is drive around and drink coffee. I wish everyone could see the image of all of the police that morning, shielding people with their own bodies to get them to safety. How many people would take a bullet for a stranger? How many times have you had to be first on the scene of a suicide or have a gun pointed at you in a domestic dispute? That is the job they willingly do, everyday.
The next time you have a negative thought about a peace officer, remember that they are the first call when we need them. Now, go hug your children and tell those important to you just how much.
Rest in Peace Sara and Robb.
